Obituary of Barbara Ann Rice

Barbara Ann Rice of Port St. John passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024 at her home at the age of 86.  

 

Barbara was born on February 17, 1938 in St. Louis, MO to Murray Hilton and Irene Hilton (McClanahan). She was introduced to her future husband, Ed, when he came home on leave with her brother, Eugene Hilton.  They were married on May 5, 1967 and she began her beautiful life raising their daughters and traveling around the United States as a Navy wife. In 1988 Barbara and her husband made their home in Port St. John.

 

Barbara is remembered for the beautiful quilts she made for family and friends, as an avid reader, bringing home stacks of books from the library weekly, a lover of gardening, travel, and watching her grandson, Nik, play sports.

 

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years J Edward Rice; daughters: Cheryl (Kurt) Meyers, Sheila (Eddie) Greier, and Rebecca (William) Ross; grandchildren: Jessica (Steven) Wheeler, Jordan Meyer, David (Jackie) West, Emily (David) Schultz, Sierra (Paul Schwendenman) Cooper, Max Cooper, Conor Mitchell, and Nikolas Turner; great-grandchildren: Aiden Wheeler, Tatum West, Claire Schultz, Henry Schultz, Hannah Schultz, and Charles Schultz; sister: Karen LaChance, and loving friends Kristen and Milton Turner. 

 

In accordance with her wishes, the family will not be holding a memorial service.
