Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Jones

Margaret Elizabeth Jones, 91, of Cocoa Beach passed away on February 3, 2024. She was born in Ashleworth, England and was the beloved wife of the late Edward Jones.

Margaret grew up in England and graduated from University of Nottingham, the University of London, and Stetson University with a Masters of Education in 1978. After teaching for a year in England, she sought a teaching job in a warmer climate and found one in Antigua, British West Indies. It was there that she met her husband, Edward Jones. Following their marriage, Margaret accompanied Edward throughout the Caribbean as he worked on early space tracking stations. Eventually, they settled in Cocoa Beach in 1963.

Margaret had a passion for education and dedicated her career to teaching. She taught at Malvern Girls' College in England, as well as in Antigua, British West Indies, and Nassau, Bahamas. In Florida, she taught at St. Mark's Episcopal School in Cocoa and Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park. Margaret's commitment to education led her to become the Headmistress/Principal of St. Mark's Academy in Cocoa.

Margaret is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Jones, D.C.; daughter, Kathrine Hamilton; and son-in-law, Dan Hamilton; brother, Martin (Barb) Watts and cousins and nephews in England. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Jones.

Margaret was a faithful member of St. David's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, where she found solace and community. A service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church chapel in Merritt Island at 10 am on Tuesday, February 13th.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Beckman Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach, Florida. In memory of Margaret, donations may be made to charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
