Obituary of Margie Lee Hinds

Margie Lee Hinds, 96, of Cocoa Beach Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023.

She was born on July 14, 1927 in Evansville, IN, to Wilhelmina (Gallmeyer) and Michael Batteiger. She graduated from Reitz High School in 1945, and went on to attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse in 1948.

She married Don Hinds July 16, 1950 and they were married 62 years at the time of his passing. Margie held a variety of nursing positions; a Visiting Nurse, a County School, an Office Nurse for seven different Doctors, an Assistant Head Nurse on a Medical/Surgical floor at a Hospital, and worked as a Staff Nurse at West Valley College in CA. Additionally, Margie was a Room Mother for her children, volunteered in the school Library, and served as Teachers Aid for many years as well as many other activities. She also taught Sunday school as well as Confirmation. Margie was involved with WELCA (Women of the ELCA), served on the Social Ministry committee at each of her churches, and attended Monday Morning Bible Study. She was a lifelong active member of the Lutheran church, most recently worshiping in and serving the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Cocoa Beach, Florida since 1986

Margie is survived by her children Michael Hinds (Maureen), Lebanon, Tennessee, Brian Hinds, Merritt Island, Florida, Laura Gerlach, Woodbine, Georgia, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hinds.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Cocoa Beach, FL at 9:00. There will be a gathering of friends and family directly after the service.
