Joseph Futia

Obituary of Joseph N Futia

Joseph N Futia, Jr, born November 26, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, passed away at his home in Rockledge, Florida after a brief battle with cancer. Prior to his retirement in 2003, Joseph worked as an estimator and electrician at J. N.Futia,Co, Inc. in Albany, NY. Joseph remained a lifelong member of the IBEW Local 236.

As a loving husband and father, Joseph raised five children with his wife, Madeleine Futia, to whom he was married sixty years. Joseph was a graduate of Christian Brother’s Academy in Albany, NY as well as attended both The University of Notre Dame and Clarkson University. Throughout Joseph’s life, he was an avid contract bridge player and enjoyed bowling for which he competed around the country in his younger days. Upon moving to Florida, golfing became a new passion and his personal golf cart a dream come true. His love of sports, especially the NY Giants and NY Yankees was evident during his coaching days for the Bethlehem Tomboys and Tri-Village Little League teams in Delmar, NY. His family, friends, and big red chair will certainly miss him immensely, and here’s hoping he still has control of the remote and gets all the channels.

He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph N and Olive R. Futia, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Madeleine M Futia, and their five children - Joseph (Jamie Laprade), Marjorie (Cheryl Van De Mark), John (Matthew Hanrahan), Catherine VanWie (David) and Michael (Amanda Young). Also his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Foote (Jessica), Alexandria Averill (Bradley), Matthew VanWie, Molly Rowe (Matthew) and Olivia Futia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor, to the Mohawk Humane Society on Oakland Avenue, Albany, NY.

Services to be held at a later date.
