Obituary of Anna Luise Smith

Anna Luise Smith, of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023 at the age of 88.

She is survived by her two sons, Roy (Carol) and Rick (Gale), her granddaughters Rachel, Rebecca and Robyn, step-grandson Gary and many wonderful nieces and nephews that still reside in Germany. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents and her loving sister, Hedwig Burgmayer. Luise loved her family and cherished every opportunity to spend time with her sons and grandchildren and to stay connected to her family in Germany.

She was born in Hassfurt, Germany to Johann and Anna Bogel on September 23, 1934. After surviving the bombing raids of World War II as a child in her hometown of Erding, Germany, she married her ex-husband Leroy and moved to America. She quickly learned a new language and culture and was proud when she gained her American citizenship. Eventually moving to Cocoa Beach in 1965, she started her long career with Pan American World Services and Johnson Controls where she worked until retirement in 1998.

Luise was a kind, generous and giving person always looking for a way to help. After retiring, she devoted her time and energy for 25 years to the Cape Canaveral Hospital Auxiliary volunteering countless hours to the hospital and patients. She was a woman of deep faith and an active member of Our Savior’s Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach. She had a passion for music throughout her life and found great joy in singing with the Church Choir for many years until she could no longer perform to her standards. She shared her passion for all things German spending many hours preparing authentic German foods for the Annual Church Fair and all her neighbors and friends. She loved crafting and created floral arrangements and art projects that she donated for any worthy cause.

Luise was a hugger and a kisser and made people feel loved and appreciated. She touched many souls throughout her life and spread joy where ever she went.

A memorial service will be held on March 18, 2023 at 10:30 at Church of Our Savior Catholic Church, 5301 N Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931 immediately followed by interment in the Church of Our Savior Memorial Garden.
