Obituary of Leonard J Riopelle

Leonard Riopelle, lifelong farmer, and sugar beet grower in the Argyle area, passed away in Melbourne, Florida at the age of 98 on November 8, 2022. Funeral services were held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Military Honors by the local Honor Guard. Leonard was born September 27,1924 to Lawrence and Belle (Bergeron) Riopelle in Bloomer Township of rural Argyle. He attended rural Bloomer Country School and later St. Rose of Lima School in Argyle where he graduated from the eighth grade, and later in life he was given an honorary high school diploma from Argyle High School. Leonard married Madonna McGlynn of Stephen Minnesota in Long Beach, California on November 3, 1946, after a tour overseas during WWII. They made their home in Bloomer Township on the Middle River west of Argyle. Leonard was lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, 40/8, Argyle Lions and Past Commander of American Legion Post 353 and Legion Drill Squad of Argyle. He was President and Supervisor of Bloomer Township Board for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Rose of Lime Church in Argyle until retirement to Florida where he joined St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Left to mourn his passing are his sister Jean Ann (Jerry) Landerville of Naples, Florida; his three children Merilee Riopelle, Jack (Pam) Riopelle, and Lisa (James) Gerdes all of Melbourne Florida; grandchildren Tony (Erika) Riopelle, Melbourne Florida; Tina (Jason) Kreidler, Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Derek Gerdes, Melbourne, Florida; great-grandchildren Nicole Riopelle, Melbourne, Florida; and Noah Bauer, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Madonna of 68 years, grandson Grant Gerdes, his parents, two brothers, one sister, five sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law all of Argyle and Stephen plus several nieces and nephews.
