Anne M. Powel Born: December 5, 1929, Washington DC, Passed away September 3, 2022, Age 92 Daughter of RADM Clinton Alonzo Misson and Mildred Herbst Misson Is survived by her husband Capt. Samuel F. Powel III USNR; Sons, Scott C. Powel, Samuel F. IV and Nancy C. Powel; grand children Jennifer P. Cleva and husband Jon Cleva, Samuel F. V and Meghan Powel, and Sarah Anne Powel; predeceased by sister, Nancy Misson Cooper. Chorister in the St Cecelia Choir of St Albans Church , Washington DC attended Sidwell Friends School in DC and Abington Friends School in Jenkintown PA graduating from Sidwell Friends School in 1947. Attended Smith College, Northampton, MA as a Theater Major. Leaving Smith to marry Ensign Samuel F. Powel III in 1950. Lived the life of a Navy wife in many places: Pensacola Fl, Corpus Christi, TX Patuxent River, MD, Monterey, CA, Winchester MA, Key West FL, Bayside, VA, Annandale, VA while her husband was on duty in the Navy. Her two sons were born at NAS Corpus Christi and NAS Patuxent River MD. She became a Little League Mom. a Cub Scout Leader and volunteered as a Gray Lady at Naval Hospitals along the way and was a member of the Junior League of Washington. In 1964 her husband transferred to the Naval Reserve and the family moved to New Scotland in upstate New York. She continued her work in the Junior League of Albany becoming Treasurer of the Next-to New Shop, and Chairman of the Admissions and Placement Committees. In 1977 the family moved to the Boston area and a year later to the Washington DC area. She entered the Northern Virginia Community College, studying history and bookkeeping and became a Docent in costume at Arlington House at Fort Myer VA. Moving to Charlottesville Va in 1978, she spent her time keeping up a house in Charlottesville and an apartment in Crystal City, commuting back and forth to Washington weekly. In 1983 her husband was transferred to the Coast Guard Research and Development Center in Groton, Ct. and she found herself as the hostess at many official functions during five Changes of Command at the R and D Center. She became involved with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy active and retired groups. She was very active in the Calvary Episcopal Church, serving in the Altar Guild, the Vestry and other committees. In 1995 the family moved to Melbourne FL where she and her husband have enjoyed retirement at the Indian River Colony Club. There will be a memorial service at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, 5550 Faith Dr. Viera FL on October 8, 2022 at 1 pm. Memorial gifts should be sent to the IRCC Foundation. at 1936 Freedom Dr. Melbourne, FL 32940.
