Obituary of Jean Eileen Castrataro

Jean Eileen Castrataro passed away on February 22, 2022. Born on August 15, 1945, in Brooklyn, NY. Daughter of William Hersh and Josephine Calandra. She is survived by her husband, George, and her children, Michelle and George, and Grandchildren, Alessia, Massimo, Emilia and Beatrice. Her brothers, Charles and Robert Hersh. Jean grew up on Long Island and worked at Grumman where she met the love of her life, George. They just celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage on November 26. When they moved to FL Jean became a nurse, her true vocation. She loved nursing and especially her time taking care of the kids at Juvenile Justice. She was a avid crafter and her talent and creativity were unmatched. She made clothes for her granddaughters’ American Girl dolls, made stain glass lamps and windows, and even patented her own beaded jewelry, The Buggy Barrette, that she sold at numerous craft shows. Jean loved going to Montauk, listening to rock music, watching House Hunters International, and flower and vegetable gardening (she had the most beautiful roses in NY and orchids in FL). Most of all she loved spending time with and feeding her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Everyone who knew her had a favorite dish she made. She was a wonderful friend and an excellent listener who will be remembered and missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
