Obituary of Florence Dolores Kamus

Florence Dolores Kamus, 85, of Cocoa, FL, passed away peacefully with her family present on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Wuesthoff Hospice House in Rockledge. Florence came to Cocoa in 1960 with her husband Adam and the first three of her five children. She was a wife and mom, and in 1965 became a school crossing guard with the Brevard County Sheriff’s office. Her first assignment was crossing children across US 1 in Sharpes for Fairglen Elementary School, and her subsequent assignments were at Clearlake Rd and Rosentine and Tate Streets for Cambridge Elementary School and Range Rd at Saturn Elementary School in Cocoa. She retired in 2002 from Brevard County Fire Rescue. She was a founding parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Frontenac and was a member of the Four Communities Volunteer Fire Department Auxillary. Florence was involved in all five of her children’s activities from scouting to sports. She enjoyed camping with her family and NASCAR with Richard Petty and Jeff Gordon being her favorite drivers. She especially loved all her grandchildren and taking them to special places like Busch Gardens, Sea World and Disney World. She is survived by her children Tony of Lady Lake, Darlene (David) Kellogg of Ocoee, John (Frederique) of Simi Valley, CA, Laurie (Charles) Merrick of Allen, TX, and Paul (Kathy) Kamus of Cocoa, brother Jackie, Edwardsville, PA, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 10 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Frontenac, FL. Burial will follow at Brevard Memorial Park. Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, from 4 to 7 PM at the church.
