Obituary of Stephen Leonhard

Biography Steve W. (Shamu) Leonhard of Titusville passed away unexpectedly at Parrish Medical Center on Saturday, October 10, 2009. Born in Bradenton, Florida on August 11, 1957, Steve was the son of Frances Leonhard of Melbourne and the late Norman Leonhard. In addition to his mother, Steve is survived by his loving wife, Sara Archer Leonhard. Steve has two sons Matt Leonhard and Sean Leonhard of Titusville; stepchildren Scott Feagan (Becky) of Seneca, South Carolina, Seth Feagan (Brandy) and Jennifer Nason (Erik). He is also survived by two brothers, Kevin Leonhard (Cindy) and David Leonhard (Karen), both of Melbourne. Steve had a love for the space program and had been employed at Kennedy Space Center for the past thirty years. He currently served as Chief of Pad Operations for United Space Alliance. Shamu worked at the Space Center at Pad A and Pad B for 30 years – below is a list of the companies he worked for and his job titles: August 1979 Rockwell, Mechanical Technician, Hyper System, Pad A February 1984 Lockheed, Mechanical Technician, Hyper System, Pad A March 1985 Lockheed, Supervisor, Pad A Sept 1997 United Space Alliance, Manager I, Pad A April 1998 United Space Alliance, Manager I, Professional, Pad A May 2002 United Space Alliance, Pad Operations Chief, Pad A & B Degrees May 2005 BS Degree from Barry University in “Business Administration” May 2009 Master of Arts Degree, Webster University Awards: 2007 – Performance Award for outstanding support of Pad Operations during STS-117, STS-118 & STS-120. 2006 – Performance Award for overall superb support of STS-121 and STS-115. 2004 – Performance Award for his expertise, initiative, & overall involvement in all Pad Operations activities. 2004 – Quest Award for Community Service. 2003 – Quest Award for Community Service. 2002 – Performance Award – superior performance and outstanding contributions. 2001 – Monthly Award – Attainment of USA Community Outreach or Goal by a Team Captain 1999 – Quest Award – Leadership 1996/1995/1994/1993 – Numerous commendations for launch support. 1994 – District VI Supervisor of the Month for June 1992 – Team Award – Pad A Power Reactant Storage Distribution Group 1990 – Commendation for Pad A Activation 1983 – The Prestigious Astronaut’s “Silver Snoopy” award. Numerous NMA (National Management Association) awards & Leukemia Foundation awards. Steve recently graduated with his Masters Degree in Leadership Management from Webster University. He received his BA from Barry University. He was a graduate of Eau Gallie High School. Freely giving his time and talents, Steve worked with the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society; Society for Juvenile Diabetes and Habitat for Humanity. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 16, 2009.
