Obituary of Daniel Vaughan

Daniel Glen Vaughan, 76, died February 13, 2009 at his home in Cocoa Beach surrounded by family and friends after finally succumbing to cancer. Mr. Vaughan was born on January 24, 1933 in McComb, Mississippi, the son of John and Elma Vaughan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami and was commissioned by the United States Air Force in 1954. He received a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. He was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in 1961 during the heyday of the space program, and worked on the Atlas Missile. During his professional career, he served as the Director of Global Associates at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi and Oakland, California; he was Vice President of Pan Am World Services and was Project Administrator at Cape Canaveral Hospital. Though Glen, as he preferred to be called, did many great things in his life, he considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family, particularly his four grandsons Joshua Parsons, Daniel Vaughan, Jeremy Parsons, and Matt McDaniel who lovingly refer to him as Buddy. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Cocoa Beach, and a volunteer at the Air Force Space and Missile Museum. Mr. Vaughan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Brister Vaughan, two children and their spouses, Daniel Glen and Marianne Vaughan, and Dawn and Michael McDaniel, four grandsons mentioned above, three siblings, John Alton Vaughan and wife Betty of Clinton Mississippi, Linda Brown of Redlands California, Clefton Vaughan and wife Mary of little Rock Arkansas, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of wonderful friends. His memorial service will be held Monday, February 16, at 2 PM at First United Methodist Church, 3300 N. Atlantic Ave in Cocoa Beach. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to First United Methodist Church, Cocoa Beach.
