Obituary of Harry L. Brown

Harry Leroy Brown, Captain, USNR, 86,was declared number ONE on the runway for his final departure on 16 March, 2008. He came into this world 30 May, 1922 in Centralia, Il. to the late Harry and Mae Brown. He married the late Phyllis Dyer Brown in 1945 and was a devoted husband for over forty-five years. Capt. Brown joined the Navy's V-5 program as a Naval Flight cadet. Upon graduatin he was assigned to active duty status piloting TBF's (torpedo dive bombers) during WW II. While qualified in SBD's, TBM's, SB2C's and the F4U (Corsair), he was shot at one numerous occasions while flying reconnaissance missions. He is the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, Naval Reserve Faithful Service Medal, WW II American Campaign Medal and Korea Service Medal among others. On completion of over 30 years of active naval service, Captain Brown retired to Cocoa Beach, Fl. where, as an active member of Fraternal Order of Free and Accepted Masons,Canaveral Lodge 339,he rose to the office of Worshipful Master and finally to Right Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master for the State of Florida. He is survived by his brother, Bill Brown and his wife Marie; sons, Terry and Phillip Brown and his daughers Debra Teston and Lisa Schmidt and by his grandchildren Chris, Mathew and Kimberly Brown, John Paul Teston and Sara Schmidt. Masonic Services will be held 2 PM Thursday, March 27 th at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, June 9, 2008 at 9 AM with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Canaveral Lodge 339, P.O. Box 339, Cocoa Beach, Fl. 32932.
