Obituary of Patricia "Pat" Kane

Patricia Frances "Pat" Kane (nee Ranier) passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 86 in Melbourne, Florida. She was born on January 27, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pat is survived by her beloved husband, John S. "Jack" Kane, her children John S. Kane (Paula D.), Kandace M. Dunnavant (Bruce), Patrick M. Kane (Paula M.), six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosemary Smith, and stepfather, George H. K. Smith.

A loving and devoted wife and amazing mother, Pat met and married her husband of 67 years in Springfield, PA. Upon his commissioning in the U.S. Army, they embarked on an exciting and well-traveled military life. Pat saw the world and raised their three children and various pets in over 10 duty stations across the U.S. and overseas, including Japan and Germany. In 1968, Pat fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse earning her Associate degree from El Paso Community College in Colorado Springs, CO. She trained and served in increasingly varied and skilled positions throughout her career in hospitals both stateside and abroad. After settling in Virginia, she proudly earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University in 1988. She continued to love travel and her career as a surgical nurse. Pat retired in 1993 from the VA Hospital in Hampton, Virginia, as an operating room nurse wherein she and Jack then permanently relocated to Melbourne, to enjoy the Florida lifestyle.

An avid and talented painter, and crafter, Pat's many beautiful works proudly adorn her children's homes. She loved animals; and being especially fond of birds, many pictures and statues of such adorned her home and gardens.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist church in Viera, Florida, at 10:30 a.m. on May 13, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
