Ruth Greer

Obituary of Ruth Hale Greer

Ruth Hale Greer, 77, of Cocoa Beach, Florida, passed away on April 20, 2023 at Cape Canaveral Hospital following an extended illness.

Ruth was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up in Kissimmee, Florida. She attended Florida State University and then graduated from University of Florida with a degree in psychology. While successfully raising two sons, Ruth also attained a masters degree in vocational education through Indiana State University. Ruth previously had lived in Madison, Indiana, for many years where she worked at Indiana Vocational Technical College as an educator. She then retired to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where she lived her dream of enjoying her days by the pool and the ocean and having a close circle of friends to keep her company. Ruth was a loving mother to her two sons and their wives, and was an incredible Grammy to her 5 grandchildren who adored her. She loved traveling to see her family, spending time with friends, and could always be found with a good book in her hands and a cold Diet Coke by her side. She will be missed by all of us who were loved by her and who loved her so much in return.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, William Arthur Hale and Maxine Laubert Hale, as well as her brother Charles Hale and her sister Janet Hale. She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Dawn) of Leawood, Kansas, and Alan (Debbie) of Green Oaks, Illinois; and her five grandchildren, Matthew, Caitlin, Lily, Amy and Madelyn. She is also survived by her siblings, Susan Doolittle, Bill Hale  and Karen Poe and their spouses.

A service of remembrance and celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at Advent Lutheran Church 7550 N Wickham Rd, Melbourne, FL 32940 for her family and friends on Saturday, May 20 at 10 am, with a small reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
