It is with deepest sympathy that I remember a most respected and loved friend. My good friend Richard was like a younger brother to me. We first met in the late sixties when we enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves on Alexander Street in Yonkers N. Y. We were eventually stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Richard and I were assigned to Military Patrol overseeing this base. Our military orders were posted one day on the Active-Duty assignment board. I noticed that my duty was aboard the USS Norris DD- 859. Richard could not believe that he was also being assigned to the same destroyer USS Norris. We worked side by side in the engine room in charge of 60,000 H.P. reduction gears that propelled the ship. We both experienced being high lined two times at sea where they shoot ropes across from two moving ships and pull you across in a steel basket. We spent time in Rota Spain, Palma Spain, Souda Bay Crete, the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean. After receiving our Honorable Discharge in 1976 we ended up residing at Crest Manor, an apartment complex. Richard and Claire became good friends. Richard eventually moved to Florida. and I followed him to the Sunshine State. I will always have great memories of our past lives together. I will miss Richard very dearly. I solute my fellow sailor, friend and brother. God bless you. Richard. Peace be with your family.
