Obituary of Arthur Walter Engels

The sweetest memories remain Of the happiness we shared Our love will live beyond this life In the hearts of those who cared Arthur Walter Engels, 85, passed away on May 1, 2022, with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Dawn (Petrille) and the late Nancy (Kay). Father to Gary Engels (Denise) and Cindy Mercer (Richard). Grandfather to Madeline Stevenson (Eric), Brett and Cody Engels, and Devyn and Jayla Mercer. Arthur was born on July 1, 1936, in Detroit, MI, son of Arthur Rene Engels and Madeline (De Bates), both of Belgium decent. Arthur served in the US Army from 1961-1963 as part of the 551st Engineer Corps. He often shared stories of his time stationed in Panama and his job creating maps as part of the topographical unit. After his years in the military, Arthur went on to start his family and career. He was a hard-working and well-regarded printer at the Detroit News up until he retired and moved to Melbourne, FL in 1999. Arthur was an exceptionally kind, honest, and genuinely good man, who enjoyed working on cars and his computer. Soft spoken and quick to smile, he was a true gentleman who honored God and cherished his family above all else. Arthur is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Interment will be at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL.
