Obituary of Harold James Stevens

Harold James Stevens, a long-time resident of Indian River Club of Rockledge, Florida, died on May 1, 2022. He was born January 17, 1938, to the late Raymond and Marie Stevens in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended school through the 8th grade and then went to work as a Brick and Block Mason. Harold was one of twelve children: Raymond Stevens, Betty Weingartner, Robert Stevens, Dorothy Lowenstein, Richard Stevens, Larry Stevens, Carolyn Kerns, Melvin Stevens, Barbara Momper, Margaret (Margie) McWhorter, and Ronald Stevens. In June 1968, Harold finally convinced Dawn to become his wife. They were truly blessed with 52 years together and enjoyed a big celebration for their 50th anniversary. Harold was a loving Husband, Dad, Brother, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Stacy McDonald, brother-in-law, Danny and Ann Hardy, nephews Jason and John Hardy. He loved his six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was a generous man and father who was also blessed with 25 nieces and nephews. Dad loved us and had high expectations for his children. He instilled in his children the importance of educational achievement and the love of family. We will miss his sense of humor, cooking, and singing around the house. Harold had a love of music and was an excellent harmonica player and singer to tunes played at Block Parties in Georgetown Green, playing songs from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s. Dad’s favorite tune that he sang to Mother was, “Shine on, Shine on Harvest Moon for Me and My Gal!” He and mother held Warehouse Parties in the Fall and certainly enjoyed sharing with the community. Harold was described by everyone who knew him as a hardworking and dedicated man. He didn’t know the meaning of a 40-hour workweek. He held many jobs and was employed as a Professional Brick and Block Masonry Man. Normal workdays started early and ended late. A new job would often begin on Saturday, and he and his team would build a gas station over the weekend. His projects included Indian River College, Brevard Community College, Space Launch Pads, numerous Service Stations, and specialized in customized fireplaces. He was a resident of Rockledge since 1966. Harold and his wife, Dawn, were founders of the Girls Fastpitch Softball teams and Girls Junior League Tennis teams in Rockledge. Through their efforts, they developed a love of sports for juniors in the county. They were instrumental in building the softball fields and the Har-Tru Tennis courts at Rockledge Park. Together Harold and Dawn were a team that was recognized for their leadership and work ethic in addition to dancing, traveling, and playing tennis.
