Grandpa Chuck was the man who showed me how special the great outdoors is. Whether it was fishing, snorkeling, going for boat rides, or exploring the woods up at the cabin, I always knew we were up for an adventure when Grandpa was involved. (As a kid, I was convinced him and Nana ACTUALLY lived in those treehouses in the woods.)
While I am happy he is no longer in pain, loss is always hard. Ill be thinking of you every time I head out for an adventure.
Love you always.

Out at Pokegama Lake, we always seemed to run into Chuck when he was making a run on his 4-wheeler. He always had a hearty "hello" and seemed genuinely happy to see you. He would share a short story about someone we knew or an update on news about the lake and then off he would go. It was always a pleasure to see him. He will be missed.

Dear Donna,
We are so sorry for your great loss. Although we did not know Chuck well, we new him through
you. We had a wonderful weekend at your home on the lake and another one at our home, you
talked of so often, always told me he was the love of your life. He was a great guy.
With our love and deepest sympathy, Bill and Bea Andres

Ode to Chuck
Chuck Ryan has left.........
For the Happy Hunting Grounds up yonder.
Of the North Woods there was no person fonder.
With St. Peter he's now fishing and no doubt he's wishing
That Donna was beside him there, with out a care.
In Heaven there are many a mansion
And after 2,000 years they're in need of expansion.
Chuck is the answer to St. Peters prayer,
Most of the realm is in need of repair.
Rarer than riches and more precious than jewels
Is a can do man with his box of tools.
Chucks final flight plan, with no hesitation,
Is a nonstop to Heaven, his last destination
His ETA.Up,......Up and Away
Scheduled for March 2022, the 8th day.
None of us know
When our final flight will be
How many legs we have left
Remains a mystery.
But this I know for certain,
Before my final curtain,
I'm glad to have known this man
Who greeted life love with such elan!
Bon Voyage, Pat

Donna,
So sorry to see this. Mary Jo and I can tell Chuck Ryan stories in his memory. Of course, the tales of life on Moose Point will live on. What a gift that lake has been to all of us, and what a gift we have all been to each other.
Peace, blessings, and love to you and your family.

I have lots of memories of Chuck from boat rides in MN & FL; taking me out snorkeling in the Keys, being a grandpa to my kids and for our disagreements about football (all in fun). There are two that stand out to me though:
1. One of the first times I spent time with him was when Kerri and I were dating. He took me fishing on Pokegema. I had fished as a child but it had been about 15 years so he was getting back up to speed with my fishing skills. We went to his favorite spot and and we were getting ready to throw our lines in the water. I was having an issue with the horse flys though. I thought I was being the good future son-in-law so I took my shoe off and proceeded to try and kill as many flys as possible by pounding (loudly) on the aluminum boat. He just stared at me without saying a word, shook his head and then proceeded to start packing up. When I asked him what we were doing he let me know that whatever fish had been there were long gone and we might as well move to a new spot. Needless to say, we did not catch any fish that day.
2. Last summer I was able to spend time with him when he was at MarketStreet. While this was not "peak" Chuck he still had that ornery streak about him. I was wheeling him down the hall to dinner one day when this conversation took place with a fellow resident:
Resident: I want out of here. Do you guys know how I can get out to the parking lot?
Chuck: Sure. Just go down to that door at the end of the hall. It sticks so push really hard on it (it was locked).
Resident: Thanks man!
Me: Chuck! You are giving him false hope. He can't get out.
Chuck: All good--that guy is annoying.
Both of us had a good laugh on that one.
Will miss him but the good memories will live on.

The first time I met Chuck he arrived at the "Grandpa Cabin" drinking a beer and eating potato chips. This made me happy because mom had said he was into healthy eating etc. Score for Chuck! It's hard to pick a few special memories because there are many. Instead I want to talk to his character. Chuck was a generous person who consistently did whatever was needed to help others. He was honest and convicted in his beliefs, a true gentleman. When I spent time with him at Market Street he insisted that I share his meal. He taught Alison, Jen, Katie and Sam girls how to fish. (patience) And even had nice things to say about the girls when they were being a challenge. Thank you for the perfect steaks, boat rides and adventures in the Keys! Heaven has gained an angel and I know we will all be with you again. I love you and am thankful for the time we had with you. God bless you Chuck Ryan! xoxoxo
