Obituary of James C Baker Jr.

James C. Baker, Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday. February 5, 2022, at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Jim was born on December 14, 1946, in Wellsburg, West Virginia to the late James C. (“Pop”) Baker and Olive Baker. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1964 and continued his education at West Liberty University. While attending West Liberty, he was a member of the golf team and majored in business, which provided a foundation for his future business endeavors. Jim was an employee with Mercury/Mariner Brunswick Corporation in regional sales. In addition, Jim sold boats for Ebb Tide and Low Corporation. With his boat sales background, he moved to florida and began a boat rental business in Merritt Island. Following that venture, he created and was CEO of Matchbiz, which dealt exclusively in commercial business sales. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967-1971; he was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Oahu, Hawaii. He was a communications specialist rising to the rank of sergeant. It was during this period of his life that he began to develop his love of flying. Later, he would go on to earn his pilot’s license and own his own Cessna. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Peg Baker Dahn of Columbus, Ohio and Bill Dahn. Jim is survived by his beloved children, James C. Baker III and Michelle Christine Baker; Partner, Marcia Christ; Donna Ferrell Baker (mother of James and Michelle); nephews Rich Dahn, Patrick Dahn, Robbie Dahn and Chuck Dahn. A private family military memorial service and committal will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
